What treatment options are there?

What exactly is Bacterial Vaginitis and How can You Treat it?

Simply spoken, Bacterial Vaginitis occurs when the natural and normal balance of microorganisms in the vagina is getting out of control.

Vaginitis should not be mixed up with having a candida yeast infection, although the symptoms can look very much the same. Sometimes the same treatment as for bacterial vaginitis can also help to cure candida.

An effective cure for bacterial vaginitis is not as hard to obtain as you might assume. Bacterial vaginitis (bacterial vaginosis) is a very common condition amongst many women.

Actually it is just about the most frequent of such conditions and can be encountered by women of all ages. It is very common that it causes quite some degree of psychological stress and annoyance, however it is not a life threatening condition.

Discharge

The discharge produced by Bacterial Vaginitis is particularly common right after intercourse, although it can appear any other time also.

Its appearance is usually of a bright yellow-color and also thin in consistency. Other signs or symptoms could be excessive itching in addition to uncomfortable swelling of the vagina and vulva. And of course there is the hint of the distinctive fishy odour.

That smell is apparent upon discharge but it stays until the conditions is gone. Douches wont help, they actually make the condition even worse. Doctors quite often aren’t sure themselves which condition (vaginosis, candida) it is and then simply move through whatever treatment options until something finally works.

Important is that we want to make sure that we are not dealing with candida, thrush or candida albicans or trichomoniasis. After we have the right diagnosis we can start treating, but not before we actually know what we are dealing with.

Main Reason for Bacterial Vaginitis

A root cause, as we know, is a higher than normal ph level compared to the typical pH level within the vagina. Harmful microbial growth is limited in the vagina as long as the acidic pH level stays normal at about 3.7 to 4.2.

But if this level goes up towards the alkaline area of the scale and exceeds 4.5, the harmful bacteria start to take over – starting to give off that distinct fishy odor.

What medication works best? Antibiotics or perhaps an alternative Natural Treatment for Bacterial Vaginitis?

For many doctors, anti-biotics are always the first and initial option and there’s no reason to believe this will change in mainstream medicine any time soon.

According to medical studies, we know that medication with antibiotics is only successful for 16% of all women and then in parts for about 38% of women. A further problem is the extremely high rate of reccurence of the vaginitis if it is treated with antibiotics.

And then there are naturals cures for vaginitis with an astonishing success rate of over 90% for sufferers. And: The actual ingredients cost only a few dollars and such natural treatment is usually working right away or in very short time.

It is no surprise that a growing number of doctors tend to be leading sufferers in direction of a natural cure when it comes to bacterial vaginitis. Better even, antibiotics lose its effectiveness over time and natural healing methods often do not, let alone that mainstream medication like antibiotics often have serious side effects.

Natural treatment of Bacterial Vaginitis is therefore preferred for many reasons.

(c) 2010 www.bacterialvaginosisweb.com

Related Blogs

Related Blogs on Antibiotics

Read Useful Information About Home Remedies For Acne | Acnezine …

Seth’s blog » Blog Archive » Eczema, Nighttime Cough, Antibiotics …

Treatment of Kidney Infections | Natural Holistic Health Blog

Related Blogs on Bacterial Vaginosis

Related Blogs on Beneficial Bacteria

10 Cultured Dairy Foods: Yogurt, Buttermilk, Kefir | The Nourished …

Fresh Raw Cream | The Nourished Kitchen

Related Blogs on Good Bacteria

‘Good bacteria‘ linked to lower anxiety levels in CFS patients …

Alternative Medicine With Good Bacteria From Kefir | Fibromyalgia …

How to Get Rid of Vaginal Odor and Never Get it Again? An infection (as opposed to an irritation) is usually caused by bacteria, viruses or yeast.

Depending on what causes the infection, the symptoms may vary.

The most common symptoms of Vaginitis:

Vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor.

Burning and itching.

Discomfort during sexual activity.

What Vaginal Discharge is considered normal?

A certain amount of clear and odor-less discharge is considered normal for most women. But a vaginal discharge that has an odor or that is irritating can be considered abnormal discharge and needs to be looked at. Such abnormal discharge can be especially annoying and irritating at night and during sexual activity.

It is advised to consult your doctor or gynecologist if you note any such changes in the discharge.

Types of Vaginal Infections

The most common forms of infection

Candida (Yeast Infection)

Bacterial Vaginosis

Trichomoniasis vaginitis

Chlamydia

Viral vaginitis

Non-infectious vaginitis

It might be difficult to differentiate the exact types of infection and get a clear diagnosis since the symptoms can often be very similar. Furthermore, it can happen that several infections appear at the same time so its not always easy to make a diagnosis.

It is important to consult your doctor at the first appearance of symptoms because only a doctor can do the right diagnosis.

See Vaginal Infections for more information.

Bacterial Vaginitis and Pregnancy

Vaginitis

Bacterial Vaginitis and Pregnancy Pregnancy can be complicated enough, but sometimes during the nine month term, you may exhibit symptoms of vaginal irritation, itching and burning that should be checked by your OBGYN. It’s possible one in five women will develop this infection during their pregnancy. It can raise your risk for preterm labor and birth and some studies have linked it to a higher risk of miscarriage, PPROM (preterm premature rupture of the amniotic membranes) and post delivery uterine infection.

However, the majority of women with Bacterial Vaginitis (a.k.a. Bacterial Vaginosis or Vaginal Bacteriosis) have perfectly normal pregnancies. Women who are high risk are often screened for it. The problem with bacterial vaginitis (otherwise known as Gardnerella) is that it can only be treated with oral or topical antibiotics because it is a bacterial infection. Gynecologists will prescribe medication after the first trimester because it’s best for the developing fetus.

The drug Metronidazole (ex. Vandazole, Flagyl, MetroGel-Vaginal, MetroGel Vaginal, Metro) can be prescribed for oral or topical use. In some instances strep, E-coli, staph or Mycoplasma are at the root of the problem. All BV is contagious. However, men don’t have any symptoms and aren’t affected by it. When your vaginal pH grows to be 4.5 or above and your discharge is thin and yellow, white or gray, it can signal a Bacterial Vaginitis (BV) infection.

It can have a malodorous scent and the smell can be overpowering after sexual contact. Your gynecologist can take a sample and test it to determine what is wrong. It’s important to be tested because sometimes other STDs also have similar symptoms to BV. Gonorrhea, Chlamydia or Trichomoniasis are sometimes present and the reason for your illness. There are many modern ways to cure these issues that aren’t harmful to baby or to Mom.

Some women are asymptomatic and that is why it’s important to go to all of your appointments and make appointments to be seen if you are uncomfortable and feeling yucky.

Natural bacterial vaginitis remedies can help to soothe current symptoms and prevent it from recurring (which about 50% of all women will have another case within 12 months of the first one.) However, pharmaceutical solutions are necessary for a complete recovery and work in plenty of cases. So don’t worry and stay healthy during your pregnancy!
