To understand why antibiotics are not an optimal treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis we need to look a little closer how those medications actually work.

It is actually quite normal that there is always a certain amount of “good” as well as “bad” bacteria in the female genitals. It is this balance of the bacteria in the vagina which makes it possible that the female genitals are steadily kept healthy on their own and we usually do not have to do anything further.

Bacterial Vaginosis means that the number of bad bacteria is increasing, the healthy balance of the bacterial flora inside the female genitals is brought out of balance.

This could happen due to a number of different reasons, for example the use of irritating, scented soaps or baths.

Now, antibiotics are not “smart” in a sense as they don’t know not to eliminate the good bacteria which are actually beneficial for the vaginal health. Antibiotics simply try to kill off all bacteria, including the good ones.

While this approach will certainly kill the bacteria responsible for the Bacterial Vaginosis, the antibiotics will also destroy the natural shield of the beneficial bacterial and with it the ability of the vagina to keep itself healthy on its own.

With the good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria gone, the antibiotics now give way for a potential new BV infection down the road.

We can therefore observe a rather high rate of vaginosis infection recurrence anywhere from 2 weeks up to a month from the initial treatment with antibiotics. Many chronic sufferers from Bacterial Vaginosis have this problem of BV infection recurring after they got treated with antibiotics.

There is an increasing number of patients who realize that such treatment is not optimal due to the high rate of occurrence and this rather radical approach of eliminating all of the bacteria.

Other criteria which speak against antibiotics are the potential side-effects of them, in particular in pregnant women.

Natural treatments have the following benefits:

* No recurrence of bacterial vaginosis.

* High success rate of > 90% in most women.

* No side-effects

A natural treatment solution which gets rid of the actual problem in the long run is certainly better than repeated taking of antibiotics just to have the infection coming back a few weeks later.

(c) 2011 www.bacterialvaginosisweb.com

Diagnosing Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis

diagnosis

symptoms

When it comes to diagnosing whether you have Bacterial Vaginosis you should see your Gynecologist right away. When it comes to your health you should not gamble and keep guessing and then possibly even apply the wrong treatments and medication unless you are 100% sure what condition you have and once the doctor confirmed that you have indeed Bacterial Vaginosis.

The gynecologist will usually look for the typical signs of bacterial vaginosis, he will examine the gray discharge and might also perform some further tests to rule out all the other possible causes.

How do those tests for bacterial vaginosis look like, how is it diagnosed?

The doctor can diagnose bacterial vaginosis using a soft, small, roundish cotton swab or a small plastic loop. With it he will collect samples from the cells from the walls of your vagina. This is a very simple and harmless procedure which does not cause pain, if anything it might cause a little discomfort but this is really all there is to it.

Those samples are then examined, he might check the ph level and do other tests with it. Depending on your gynecologist or doctor he might be able to come up and tell you the result right away. If they can not give you the results right away, due to lack of the required medical equipment in your doctor’s office maybe, they will send the samples to a lab and then it might take a few days until the results come back.

When you get the results back you will know whether you have Bacterial Vaginosis or whether it is another condition. Once you and your doctor know for sure you have Bacterial Vaginosis the doctor can start with treatment.

Alternatively, you can choose natural treatments on your own. The most important thing is that you know for sure that you do have Bacterial Vaginosis and not start any medical routine and treatment before you got the actual diagnosis.

Bacterial Vaginosis – Can Men Get Bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial Vaginosis

Vaginal Infections

bacterial vaginosis in men

male bacterial vaginosis

Can Men Get Bacterial Vaginosis? There is some confusing information to be found whether men can actually get or transmit this infection.

How common is the occurrence of Vaginosis on Men? For one, we can with certainty say that Bacterial vaginosis infections have never been observed in men. Due to the physionomy of the male genitals the bacteria which are responsible for BV cannot grow in males as they do in females.

However, sexual contact can make the condition worse for the woman and it is not advised that women who suffer from BV engage in any sexual intercourse unless the Vaginosis is properly treated and completely gotten rid of. The worst which can happen due to sexual contact is that the infection would spread internally and cause even more complications down the road. Abstinence is strongly advised until the infection is under control.

There are also indications that having sexual contact while infected with Bacterial Vaginosis can be responsible for the recurrence of the infection and it might make it much more difficult to successful heal and treat the infection in the long run. Why make things worse and hinder the healing process?

Another problem is the potential spreading of the condition from one women to the other. While men themselves are prone to Bacterial Vaginosis, it is certainly possible that the harmful bacteria are spread similar to sexual transmitted diseases (STDs). While BV is not an STD in itself, the ways of transferring the infection are similar, caution is therefore always best as opposed to risking even more health problems.

If a woman is uncertain about having a BV infection, the best is simply to consult a doctor first for a proper diagnosis. After a proper diagnosis has been made by a doctor or physicist, women can use a variety of natural but effective treatments to get rid of the bacterial vaginosis.

To minimize the risk, always use condoms and use special caution and hygiene to avoid any further and unnecessary complications.

In conclusion, while men cannot get Bacterial Vaginosis, it is possible that they can spread the condition and make things worse. Any such health risks should be avoided.

Bacterial Vaginosis Treatments Compared

Bacterial Vaginosis

bacterial vaginosis treatment

When it comes to Bacterial Vaginosis, there are usually two treatment approaches: There are the conventional bacterial vaginosis treatments and then we have alternative treatment options also. Furthermore, antibiotics can sometimes be fairly expensive also.

But this is not the problem with antibiotics. The problem is rather that antibiotics are really a “brute force” treatment.

We know antibiotics are effective at killing off the bacteria in the vagina, there is no question about it. But antibiotics they do not take into the account the sensible and very important balance of microorganisms in the vagina.

This kind of treatment does not differ between “good” bacteria and “bad” bacteria. By simply eliminating all vaginal bacteria they basically ignore the importance of restoring and keeping a healthy, natural vaginal environment.

A disturbance of the otherwise balanced and healthy environment of microorganisms is the reason for bacterial vaginosis outbreaks in the first place. Normally, the female body can very well adjust and regulate itself in that regard, there is a natural mechanism in place which keeps infections like Bacterial Vaginosis from appearing.

Only in such cases where this natural balance is off we see infections occurring.

A reason for such a “disturbance” and a BV occurance could be overdoing it with scented body washes, douches, washes and baths which contain certain chemicals, just to name a few examples.

Using antibiotics may well treat the symptoms, all right, but it is hardly ideal in helping to restore the so important and healthy vaginal balance which prevents the infections in the first place.

As a result, we see a big number of recurrence seen if the Bacterial Vaginosis is solely treated this way. The other problem is that the harmful bacteria might develop a resistance at some point if treated with antibiotics over and over. Potential side effects not even taken into account.

For that reason, we urge that females who suffer from bacterial vaginosis should look into those alternative options. There are actually many such natural bacterial vaginosis treatments around, some surprisingly effective and surprisingly simple to apply.

Let’s talk about the obvious benefits of natural BV treatments:

*) Natural methods will support and restore the natural, beneficial vaginal balance

*) There is either none or only very little risk of recurrence of infection which we otherwise see due to simply treating symptoms instead of the underlying cause.

*) Bacteria will not develop resistance over time

*) No potentially harmful side effects

If you suffer from BV, such natural bacterial vaginosis treatments might be just the solution for you.

Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms

Bacterial Vaginosis

bacterial vaginosis symptoms

symptoms

What exactly are the Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms? The discharge can have a slimy, mucus-like appearance.

With it we can also observe itchiness or soreness around the vagina. Pain and a burning sensation while urinating are common signs also.

While the symptoms are usually rather mild, one problem is that many females are often not even aware that they have Bacterial Vaginosis. Some women just do not take the signs and symptoms too serious at first. As a result, such ignoring of the bacterial vaginosis symptoms could lead to other and more complications down the road which could have been avoided if the signs are taken seriously right away once they occur.

A healthy vagina is pretty balanced in that sense that it contains a small amount of good as well as bad bacteria and microorganisms. It can regulate itself and usually there are no problems. The condition appears when this healthy balance is thrown off due to various reasons.

We know that Bacterial Vaginosis results from a bacterial imbalance in the vagina coming from an overgrowth of the bad bacteria.

For example, it is known that such bad bacteria which can throw off the vaginal balance can often be introduced from overdoing it with vaginal douching. Another reason which could trigger a BV infection is too frequent use of washes and soaps with harsh chemicals and strong scents.

All those things can influence the sensitive bacterial flora within the vagina negatively and could cause a growth of harmful bad bacteria which could lead to the condition.

The same goes also for changing sexual partners frequently. Doing so can cause an increase of the vaginal pH, this can also lead to bacterial vaginosis symptoms.

What if i have Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms but i am not sure?

As for diagnosis, only the doctor can make an accurate diagnosis due to the fact that bacterial vaginosis symptoms are so similar to other conditions like candida. And candida needs a different treatment. Self-diagnosis is not a wise thing to to when it comes to your health.

As always, prevention by being careful is the best thing to do to avoid the Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms.

Got Vaginitis? The discharge, if you get 1, is easily recognised as it can be white and curd-like. There is not necessarily any smell, but if there is certainly one, you can expect it to be like bread or yeast or beer.

By contrast, Bacterial Vaginosis results from a bacterial infection – a frequent culprit is Gardnerella vaginalis. It isn’t classified as a sexually transmitted infection – but it can be much more prevalent in individuals with multiple sexual partners and may be transmitted sexually. Not everybody who gets Bacterial Vaginosis gets an offensive smell with it, but the smell could be unpleasant – a strong fishy odor. If you’ve a discharge, it may possibly be white or yellow. A litmus test may possibly be conducted by your physician to confirm the diagnosis – a pH above 4.5 is strongly suggestive of Bacterial Vaginosis infection.

This leads me to an important point. If you have symptoms, it can be important to visit your medical care practitioner to get a precise diagnosis. Other possibilities contain Atrophic Vaginitis, Trichomoniasis and Genital Herpes to name several.

Many sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have comparable symptoms to both Candida and Bacterial Vaginosis – it’s even typical to have an STI and have no symptoms at all whilst all type of damage may be going on internally. It is critical to know exactly what you’re dealing with so which you can treat it appropriately. There may possibly or may not be an odor and there may possibly or may not be a discharge – this makes it tough to understand for sure.

Meanwhile, it’s common sense to avoid scented lotions, douches and baths and to use cotton underwear which you change frequently. And go to your doctor as soon as feasible for an examination.

Recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis

Why is BV often recurring after treatment? Under normal circumstances a women has just the right amount of “good” and “bad” bacteria. The normal ph level in the vagina is just right to support the growth of the beneficial bacteria.

Because the vagina is such a sensitive and balanced system it is also pretty easy to disturb the healthy balance in the vagina. Ph levels can shift easily which will allow an overgrowth of the bad bacteria and thus cause an occurrence of BV.

The problem is that the common treatment options (Antibiotics) are everything BUT sensitive in regards to the vagina’s healthy bacterial flora.

Antibiotics would simply kill all the bacteria because they don’t differ between the good ones and the bad ones. The antibiotics might have gotten rid of an acute BV infection temporarily (by killing the bacteria), but the healthy balance in the vagina is still thrown off, making way for the next vaginosis to appear.

Recurrent bacterial vaginosis might be impossible to cure using antibiotics alone. It has been observed that women suffered for years from BV recurrence, simply visiting the doctor over and over without really ever gotten rid of the problem.

However, women reported success in treating their recurrent BV using a multifaceted and natural approach which includes, but is not limit to:

* Healthy Nutrition rich in Vitamins
* Fewer sexual partners
* No use of scented soaps and washes
* Quitting Smoking

Enhancing and helping the natural, good bacterial flora in the vagina

Supplementing and enhancing the beneficial bacteria is a common approach to battle Vaginosis. Success has been reported by a number of women who used probiotics, either externally or in the form of probiotic capsules from the drug store. Another group of women reported success in treating their BV with boric acid which can be purchased over the counter also.

Cider vinegar baths have also shown a beneficial effect. You can give a couple of cupfuls to a shallow bath and sit in it for 20 minutes.

As it looks, the use of antibiotics does often more harm than good, especially when it comes to the treatment of recurrent vaginosis. We really want to give the natural methods a preference.

Bacterial Vaginosis and Possible Health Threats

Bacterial Vaginosis

Of all the conditions which a woman may face, bacterial vaginosis is one of the most common to occur. It is a type of vaginal infection which is the result of the bacteria within the vagina becoming unbalanced, with an overgrowth of a particular type of bacteria. The condition was once called Gardnerella vaginitis, but it has now become known that there is more than one type of bacteria which live within the vagina, so the name was not technically accurate.

What are the common symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial vaginosis usually has but two noticeable symptoms, which are vaginal discharge and odor. When a woman detects these symptoms, she should be checked by her physician to rule out other diseases, such as gonorrhea and chlamydia, which also have these symptoms as an indicator. Some women may not even exhibit both of these symptoms and still have the condition, that’s why it’s important to see your doctor should you notice a marginal difference in the usual amount of discharge, or a strange odor.

What treatments are available for this condition?

The main course of treatment for bacterial vaginosis is antibiotics. The medications used to treat it are available in both oral and vaginal insertion form. Both forms of antibiotics have been proven effective in clearing the infection; however the pill form does tend to have some side effects which the vaginal gel does not. Either course will clear the condition quite effectively.

After treatment, can I get Bacterial Vaginosis again?

Unfortunately, the answer is yes, you can have it again. As a matter of fact, it is possible for some women to need two courses of back to back antibiotics in order to completely rid themselves of the condition. Pendergraft

What is bacterial vaginosis?

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most general cause of vaginal infection known as vaginitis. Normally it is not considered to be a ‘sexually transmitted infection’. It is the imbalance of naturally happening bacterial flora that causes bacterial vaginosis.

What are the symptoms and signs?

The most common sign is an unusual vaginal discharge especially after having sex which has an unpleasant fishy smell. Some women don’t experience any symptoms, while many other experience intense swelling, itching and irritation (often misdiagnosed by patient or even health practitioner as yeast infection), also stomach pains, which feels like severe cramps. By contrast, a normal discharge should be odourless and vary in amount and consistency with the menstrual cycle.

The causes?

Normally, a healthy vagina should contain many microorganisms; Lactobacillus crispate and Lactobacillus jensenii are the common ones. The microorganisms involved in bacterial vaginosis are very diverse. Reduction of lactobacillus and any other changes in normal bacterial flora, due to use of antibiotics or pH imbalance or other reasons, lets the more resistant bacteria to multiply and gain foothold.

There are a variety of causes for bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis is more common in sexually active women aging 15 to 44 especially after changing in to new partner.

Although bacterial vaginosis might be related to sexual activity, there is no strong evidence of sexual transmission. But virgins can get infected with bacterial vaginosis.

Women with sexually transmitted infections and pregnant women are more at risk. Sometimes Bacterial vaginosis affects women after menopause. A study has shown subclinical anemia the iron shortage is a strong cause of bacterial vaginosis in pregnant women. Also it’s proven there is a link between bacterial vaginosis and psychosocial stress.

There is a theory mentioning that sexual exchange of vaginal secretions in sex between women is a possible mechanism for acquisition.

In young girls, strep or bacteria from the anus due to none hygiene wiping after bowel movement may cause bacterial vaginosis.

What are the treatments?

Since the disease is caused by bacteria therefore treatment for bacterial vaginosis is using antibiotics. Not many antibiotics are used routinely. Metronidazole (Flagyl) is a very affective antibiotic which is taken either by oral (pill) or by vaginal metronidazole gel (Metrogel). The vaginal clindamycin cream (Cleocin) is also available.

The oral metronidazole is believed to be the best and most effective treatment but may cause minor and unpleasant side effects. Typically the gel does not cause side effect, but yeast vaginitis can happen as a side effect of the medication.

If you are looking for an antibiotic with fewer side effects then tinidazole is the one, an antibiotic that appears to have lesser side effects compared with metronidazole and is effective in bacterial vaginosis treatment.

There is the possibility of bacterial vaginosis Recurrence even after a successful treatment. Recurrence happens in more than half of the treated patients within 12 months. The reason is unclear. Due to appearance of recurrent symptoms, second course of antibiotic treatment is recommended.

To Your Health!

Related Blogs

Related Blogs on Fishy Smell

Arizona: A fishy smell coming from Fish and Game (jaguar was baited)

Related Blogs on Menstrual Cycle

Can rheumatoid arthritis pain follow my menstrual cycle …

Top 10 Birth Control Myths | Healthy Lifestyle

Menstrual Cycle « Biology is Life – AP Bio Blog

MENSTRUAL CYCLE-CREATURE COMFORTS: CLEAN IS COMFORTABLE | Herbal …

Related Blogs on New Partner

New partner ın a real estate company? | Dalaman Transfers …

» Dolphins' new partner: Jimmy Buffett Greenwich Diva: Keeping it …

Звук для сцены и студии » SAE announces Apogee as a new partner

Just How Painful and Distressing is Bacterial Vaginosis?

Bacterial Vaginosis

Medical Physician

Painful Intercourse

Rash

by Muna wa Wanjiru If you’ve never suffered from bacterial vaginosis then it might be difficult to comprehend just how painful and distressing it can be. Although this is not what some people might term to be a serious condition, bacterial vaginosis can be something of a burden to many women.

Bacterial vaginosis, or a yeast infection as it is also known, can have distressing symptoms and it can even be a great hurdle in many women’s lives. This is due to the fact that the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis simply can’t be ignored.

Things like unbearable itching, a burning sensation of the irritated area, painful sexual intercourse, pain during urination, yeasty smelling or cottage cheese-like discharge, and a rash are all indications that you might be suffering from a yeast infection, or bacterial vaginosis.

It doesn’t have to follow of course that what you have is a yeast infection, but these are all good indicators. If you feel that you might have a yeast infection, there are a few things that you might want to do first.

Consulting a trained medical physician should be the first order of the day if this is the first time you have ever had a yeast infection. If your bacterial vaginosis is recurrent then you always have the option of treating it yourself through one of the many home remedies.

Another thing that you might want to look into doing if you believe that you have bacterial vaginosis is to abstain from sexual intercourse as your partner might also contract this infection. Although bacterial vaginosis isn’t a sexually transmitted disease, it can be transferred from one partner to the other through sexual intercourse.

Since bacterial vaginosis can be recurrent in some women, it’s always best to know what the causes are of this particular infection. By knowing this information you then have the option of being able to take preventative measures and steps to help stop the recurrence of a yeast infection.

Causes of bacterial vaginosis can include hormonal imbalance and things leading to a hormonal imbalance like pregnancy, menopause, and menstruation. All of these can lead to a bodily imbalance which in turn can lead to bacterial vaginosis.

There are also those factors which can throw the pH balance of the vagina out of synch. When this happens the yeast inducing bacteria can have free reign to thrive in the vagina.

These factors include the use of douches or feminine sprays, the use of scented feminine hygiene products, the use of spermicides, and prolonged contact with semen.

There are also other factors to take in such as the prolonged use of antibiotics, birth control pills, stress, and even certain types of clothing such as too-tight jeans and wet bathing suits.

As you can see bacterial vaginosis can arise as a result of many factors, but if you take care to avoid most of these, you should be able to prevent bacterial vaginosis from occurring or even recurring.

Related Blogs

Related Blogs on Medical Physician

Doctor Sherry Wulkan: Ringside Physician at TheGARV: Your Ultimate …

» One Hidden Reason for High Medical Costs: Lawsuits – Blogger …

Related Blogs on Painful Intercourse

PAINFUL INTERCOURSE—DYSPAREUNIA AND VAGINISMUS

Reviving your Sex Drive

Painful intercourse

Painful Intercourse – Typical Reasons Why It Occurs …

Related Blogs on Rash

JuneauEmpire.com – Updates » Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 » Rash of …

USMLE Medicine & Micro: Facial rash and oral lesion? « Sbmedex’s …

Dallas Media

Related Blogs

Related Blogs on Medical Physician

Doctor Sherry Wulkan: Ringside Physician at TheGARV: Your Ultimate …

» One Hidden Reason for High Medical Costs: Lawsuits – Blogger …

Related Blogs on Painful Intercourse

PAINFUL INTERCOURSE—DYSPAREUNIA AND VAGINISMUS

Reviving your Sex Drive

Painful intercourse

Painful Intercourse – Typical Reasons Why It Occurs …

Related Blogs on Rash

JuneauEmpire.com – Updates » Wednesday, May 13th, 2009 » Rash of …

USMLE Medicine & Micro: Facial rash and oral lesion? « Sbmedex’s …
